How we write about AAC

We sell an AAC app, and we also publish articles about AAC. Those two things can pull against each other. This page says how we handle that.

Who writes these articles

Articles on this site are written by BublTalk's founder, a parent of a toddler who uses AAC. That is lived experience, not a clinical qualification. Where an article draws on personal experience, it says so plainly and is written in the first person.

BublTalk was shaped in consultation with four to five practising speech-language pathologists during development. None of them author or clinically review the articles on this site. If that changes, we will name the reviewer and their credentials on the article itself rather than claiming it generally.

What we cite

For anything about how AAC affects children, we cite peer-reviewed research: systematic reviews, meta-analyses and randomised controlled trials, named with journal and year so you can look them up. We do not cite our own marketing material as evidence, and we try not to lean on secondary blog summaries when the underlying study is available.

We state the limits of the evidence

This is the part most product sites skip. When research supports something, we say so. When the research has gaps that matter, we say that too, in the same article rather than in a footnote. Specifically:

• Where a study population differs from our users, we name the difference.
• Where an effect is described by researchers as modest, we use their word.
• Where evidence shows an absence of harm, we do not present it as proof of benefit.
• Where no study has tested something, we say no study has tested it, including when that is inconvenient for us.

This is not medical advice

Nothing here diagnoses, treats, or tells you what to do for your child. Decisions about a child's communication belong with you and the professionals who know your child. Our articles exist to help you ask better questions, not to answer them on your clinician's behalf.

We disclose our own interest

We make money when families subscribe. Any page that compares BublTalk with other apps says clearly that BublTalk is ours. We will not publish a comparison presented as independent, and we will not claim to have tested something we have not.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help draft and edit text. Every article is written from a real person's experience and real cited sources, and is checked by a human before it goes up. We do not publish AI-generated text that has not been read, verified and edited by us. Facts, numbers and citations are checked against the original sources, not accepted from a model.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us at hello@bubltalk.com and we will fix it and note the change. That includes corrections from clinicians who disagree with how we have summarised the research.
